Having your last baby is nothing but a bittersweet experience. Knowing that you won't be doing it again makes it a little special, a little nostalgic and makes you linger a little while longer.
Marla Sokoloff's shares her journey with her last baby on People and echoes the same bittersweet feelings that other mothers feel with their own lasts. We collected other thoughts from Babble and Scary Mommy to give you five more reasons to make the most out of your last baby years:
1. Savouring late-night feeding rather than dreading them.
While you dreaded late night feedings when you had your first baby, this late-night routine becomes more loving with your last baby. In exhaustion, oftentimes you break down due to lack of sleep. But this time, it won't be so tiresome to wake up and stay up to feed your baby.
2. Every touch, cuddle and bath time last just a little bit longer.
Knowing that this is going to be your last baby will make you cherish every little thing that you and your baby share: Cuddling will last a little longer than before; your touch lingers more; bath time has never been so fun. You may find yourself cradling her a bit more before putting her into her crib.
3. You can't spoil them enough.
While you may be a little strict with your first child, following every rule there is in the parenting book, you find yourself more relaxed with your last baby. Since you've found what works and what doesn't, you end up spoiling them, giving in to their wants most of the time.
4. You give more value to time.
Since this will be the last time you'll breathe in the milky sweetness of an infant, the last time you'll be carrying around an infant, the last time you'll help a tiny infant become stronger each day, you become more watchful how time flies. You learn how to slow down and appreciate the little things in life. More importantly, you treasure each milestone and
5. You learn to prioritize the important things.
With your first child, most of the time you try your best to be the perfect in everything that sometimes, your baby gets the backseat. However, with your last baby, you learn to let the mundane tasks wait a while longer and spend more time watching little antics of your little bundle of joy.
As Scary Mommy puts it, there will come a time to store away baby things, the crib, and high chair. There will an end to changing diapers, singing ABCs and late night feedings. But with your last baby, you learn to appreciate the little things and value time.
