"The Big Bang Theory" actor Kunal Nayyar has predicted that the hit series will be ending in about five years. However, he wishes he could still play his character, Rajesh Koothrappali, for many years more.
Kunal Nayyar shared his thoughts to the press during the Asian Awards in London, where he's honored for his work in the TV show. "We have one more series in our contract, that's Season 10," he said, per Female First. He's not aware of any plans for "The Big Bang Theory" after that, but hopes the show sticks with his character "as long as they will have me."
"The Big Bang Theory" Beyond Season 20
The actor further stated that it's realistically impossible for their characters to go on beyond Season 20 as their stories have been fully exhausted by then. However, he acknowledges that he's lucky to be part of a hit series that lasted so long and likens receiving new scripts of "The Big Bang Theory" to "Christmas morning."
"The writers never let us down, they are such incredible story tellers and they have evolved these characters so beautifully," Nayyar said. The actor has been part of the show since its debut in 2007. The rest of the cast have remained intact as well.
Kunal Nayyar's Friendship with "The Big Bang Theory" Cast
"The Big Bang Theory" was originally composed of Nayyar, Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki, Simon Helberg and Kaley Cuoco. In the later seasons the show added Mayim Bialik and Melissa Rauch to the dynamics. The actors' friendship have extended outside of their work in the TV series and they would often post photos and tag each other on their social media accounts.
Meanwhile, as "The Big Bang Theory" takes a break for the summer season, Kunal Nayyar will be working at West End in London. He shared that this is part of his bucket list. "To be able to get up on stage and play opposite Jesse Eisenberg who is a wonderful actor and a dear friend of mine is a dream come true," said Nayyar, per Digital Spy.
