A Californian woman delivered a baby weighing 15 pounds 2 ounces on Thursday, at the Desert Valley Hospital. The baby is one among the largest and heaviest babies born in the U.S.
Vanessa Cervantez was expecting her third baby to be over weight since her two other children were also large when born, weighing 10 pounds, 10 ounces and 9 pounds, 14 ounces respectively. Cervantez when informed of Andrews (third baby) weight could not believe the doctors.
"None of the doctors have ever delivered or heard of a baby being born that big here," said Cervantez, reports Fox News. "My sister's been doing research and she doesn't think a baby weighing 15 pounds has ever been born in California."
Cervantez was in labor for two days before she gave birth to the child.
Once Andrew was born, he was immediately sent off Loma Linda Children's Hospital since he was going through some respiratory problems. The doctors at Desert Valley Hospital have been monitoring the baby but he had been shifted to Loma for better treatment, stated Cervantez.
Andrew is so far the biggest baby born in California, US. In 2013, a baby weighing 14 pounds was born in Utah. In 2009, a baby weighing 19 pounds was born in Indonesia and in the same year a Russian baby weighing 17 pounds was born, according to a recent post on sfgate.
