Ian Somerhalder shocked "The Vampire Diaries" fans after announcing that next year's season would be the last. Though Somerhalder managed to gather various reactions from the fans, CW has not yet confirmed the speculations.
After Nina Dobrev, who portrayed the role of Elena Gilbert left on season 7, "The Vampire Diaries" lost most of its fans. Her absence was felt as the series progressed, her co-star and love interest, Somerhalder did his best to keep the show running.
As the seventh season moved forward, "The Vampire Diaries" was more focused on the brother's relationship. Somerhalder and Paul Wasley continuously ran the show despite the huge drop on its ratings. The show was then moved on a Friday night schedule, which is said to be a sign of low ratings. Things turned positive for the show runners after CW announced that "The Vampire Diaries will be renewed for another season which would run from 2016-2017.
Kat Graham will be one of the actors that announced her departure by the end of next year. During one of her interviews, Kat Graham confirmed that she will be leaving "The Vampire Diaries." She will be saying good bye to her character Bonnie Bennett according to Movie Plot.
"Season 8 will be my last season," Graham stated. I just hope that whatever I do after, the crew can come with me. If the crew can come with me, then we'll be good. The crew is going to be the hardest thing to let go, because we are a family."
Aside from Graham, "The Vampire Diaries" will also lose one of the major team player as Somerhalder hinted his exit. The Hollywood Reporter cited that Somerhalder announced that "The Vampire Diaries" will use the last season to end the entire series.
"We have decided to do one last season to really do the story justice," Somerhalder told his fans during the WalkerStalkerCon.
