US Election 2016: Donald Trump Kids’ Eric & Ivanka Won’t Be Voting For Him In New York, Feel ‘Very, Very Guilty’

Donald Trump will be missing out on two votes from his own children in the New York primary of U.S. election 2016. The GOP frontrunner conceded on Monday that his kids Eric and Ivanka Trump are "very, very guilty" after they failed to register in time as Republicans.

Failure To Register

ABC News reports that Donald Trump revealed on "Fox and Friends" that Eric, 32, and Ivanka, 34, missed the deadline to change party affiliation on Oct. 9, 2015. The 69-year-old billionaire businessman narrated that the two, who are both New York residents, were unaware of the rules.

"They feel very, very guilty," Donald Trump said during the phone interview on Fox News's morning show. The U.S. presidential aspirant, however, clarified that he understands why Eric and Ivanka failed to register and he is okay with it. He jokingly added that he is cutting their allowance as punishment.

Eligibility For Voting

Records of the New York State Board of Elections show that Eric and Ivanka are registered as independent voters. Since they are "not enrolled in a party," they are not eligible to vote in New York, which is a closed primary state.

"Each state differs greatly in terms of the rules and requirements - most allowing you to change your status on or close to the date of voting, if even required," Donald Trump's eldest daughter Ivanka said in a statement, according to The Washington Times. She made it clear that despite their failure to register as Republicans, she and Eric are fully supporting their father on his presidential bid, and are looking forward of voting for him in November.

While Eric and Ivanka are ineligible, Donad Trump's two other children will still be able to cast their votes for him. The Guardian reports that Donald Trump Jr., 38, is a registered Republican voter in New York while Tiffany Trump, 22, is registered in Pennsylvania.

Donald Trump has been predicted as the likely winner of New York's closed Republican primary on April 19, with Senator Ted Cruz as his closest rival. Pennsylvania will also be holding primaries on April 26.
