A friend in need is a friend indeed. A seven-year old child shaved off his head to support his best friend suffering from cancer.
Last June, Zac Gossage, 6, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. He was afraid of facing his school-mates as the repeated chemotherapy sessions turned him bald. After seeing the severe hair loss of his best friend, Vincent Butterfield also decided to shave off his hair.
"I didn't want him to feel like the only one without hair," said Vincent, reports Daily Mail. In the month of November, Vincent and his father both got their heads shaved. According to Gossage's mother, Stacy Tooley, all the discomfort of his baldness went away once his best friend Vincent joined him.
"I'm grateful that he has such an amazing friend," said Tooley in a statement.
Vincent is trying to raise funds for his friend's cancer treatment. He and his mother made scarves and put them on sale on Facebook. Vincent proposed to raise $100 by selling 10 scarves. But his Facebook ad received overwhelming response and Butterfield sold off 20 scarves within five hours, which fetched him a handsome $200. The entire amount was donated to Gossage's family for Zac's treatment.
"I sold them so the doctors can fix him," said Vincent, reports Today.
Zac is doing well these days and attends school regularly. He only misses school when he needs to visit the doctor, stated the Gossage family. According to his mother, Vincent has also benefited from his friend's adversities and learnt about fighting spirit.
Acute lymphoblastic leukemia is more common in kids between two and five years with optimistic survival rates.
