So what are the qualities you look for in your partner? Good looks, money, personality or may be something different. A recent study reveals that smoking habits can turn off people looking for partners online.
Smoking can turn out to be the biggest disadvantage when it comes to dating, reveals a recent survey by Match.com and Pifzer. Around 89 percent of the participants in the survey stated they will not like to date people who smoke, reports Mainstreet.
The trend is apparent among people who choose their dates from online sites. Online dating has gone up in recent years with increasing number of teens into social media. Thirty five percent of all marriages in the U.S. start with online dating, claims an earlier research that interviewed 19,000 individuals who got married between 2005 and 2012.
Fifty one percent of the participants in the current study revealed smoking on first date was not acceptable while 80 percent of the surveyed admitted they do not like the smell of smoke in their cars or homes. 78 percent of the volunteers showed unwillingness to kiss a smoker.
According to the researchers, smoking has become one of the potential determinants when it comes to choosing partners with increased awareness on ill effects of smoking while some oppose on personal grounds. "Our survey revealed fascinating information. Just as many smokers trying to quit look forward to not having 'smokers breath' in intimate situations as they do breathing better, the key to finding love starts with feeling great about yourself," said Bela Gandhi, a relationship expert from match.com in a statement.
But quitting smoking is difficult hat requires strong determination and passion, according to the researchers.
