Even a simple chicken egg yolk can do wonders like helping someone to resolve infertility problems.
An egg yolk miraculously helped a Brit couple, Mark and Suzanne Harper, to have their own child. The couple had spent more than $50,000 on multiple in-vitro fertilization attempts but none of them materialized.
Mark and Suzanne Harper, who got married 12 years ago, wanted to have their own family but did not succeed in any of their attempts. Mark, who survived testicular cancer in the past, had zero sperm count. The situation got worse when later Mark was detected with another form of testicular cancer.
"We were absolutely devastated," Suzanne said, reports Fox news.
In 2006, the Harper couple decided to go for artificial insemination with sperm from an American donor. But Suzanne missed on this chance even and finally decided to go for in-vitro fertilization. Suzanne tried three times to get pregnant but she was not successful. The test results revealed that Suzanne's immune system produced killer cells resulting in the death of the embryos.
Finally physicians advised a rare and unique method; using a mixture of egg yolk and soy oil to treat her infertility problems. The reason for using egg yolk is that the fatty acids present in the yolk restrict the growth of the killer cells attacking the embryo.
"But we were willing to try anything to try and have a baby," said Suzanne, reports New York Post. Suzanne was one of the first women attempting such an infertility treatment. The treatment, in combination with their eighth IVF attempt, worked. Finally in 2009, Suzanne became the mother of her first girl child, Libby.
But the couple wanted to have one more child. Although Suzanne did not succeed in her next three attempts but in March, 2013 she again became pregnant with the help of the same treatment. This time it was again a baby girl and the couple named her, Connie.
"And it's all thanks to egg yolk," said Suzanne in statement.
