Is there an upgraded Xbox One and an Xbox Slim in the works at Microsoft? While a company executive previously stated that the tech giant won't be coming out with a console to rival the PlayStation 4.5, Microsoft's FCC filing implies otherwise. It suggested that the company could be planning on releasing two new Xbox One consoles.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulates devices used and sold to the public for communication and wireless transmissions. A member in gaming community posted photos of Microsoft's most recent FCC filing that has been linked to the Xbox One and speculated for the Xbox Slim.
User ekim divulged the unconfirmed details in the Neogaf forum. It stated that Microsoft filed papers for using a wireless radio part in the "Xbox One and Kinect Sensor Product Manual," which will be used for wireless transmissions.
The request has a June 25 expiration date, which is after the annual E3 conference. The company also filed for use of a dual-band radio part with an expiration date of July 29.
The discovery suggests Microsoft could be working to upgrade the hardware and features for the Xbox One, with a possibility of releasing an Xbox Slim edition as well. But while the tech company chooses to remain silent about these speculations, gaming enthusiasts and experts analyzed that any upgrades or introduction of a new console comes at the right time.
Per Gotta Be Mobile, the current Xbox One, which was released in 2013, is still powerful, but it is no longer on the cusp of cutting edge technology. Some features need an update or change considering the acceleration of new and better technology in recent years.
Meanwhile, Yahoo reports that Brazil's FCC counterpart leaked information that Microsoft is working on a new console with improved wireless technology. Speculations are that this is the Xbox Slim and its launch, including details like specs and price, will be announced at the E3 event in June.
Softpedia reports that the alleged new console will include better GPU system and a boosted power for playing virtual reality games. This is in line with Microsoft's commitment to improve its users' gaming experience and will complement Xbox One feature upgrades that are expected in June via Windows 10.
