Home Safety Tips: 3 Easy Ways To Prevent Accidental Poisoning In Children

Many children suffer accidental poisoning because of their lack of knowledge as well as unsafe practices at home. Therefore, parents should know the different ways to prevent accidental poisoning in children.

"A lot of things you use every day can make kids very sick very quickly-vitamins, laundry detergent packs, plants and even mouthwash," Today's Parent shares. Here are three simple and easy ways to prevent accidental poisoning in children.

1. Medications

One of the leading causes of accidental poisonings in children is medication. Make sure to keep all kinds of adult medications, drugs and vitamins out of your children's sight and reach. It only takes a small amount of adult medication to cause poisoning in kids.

2. Laundry, Dishwashing And Household Cleaning Products

"Laundry and dishwashing packs have come under fire for their small squishy appearance and potentially fatal concentrated contents," Today's Parent explains. Keeping the containers properly closed and out of reach is a must for all parents. You should also keep a close eye on your kids when doing laundry or washing the dishes because kids can act clever when they are curious about something.

3. Battery

Swallowing a battery can do a lot of damage to a child's organs and it can even lead to death. An eight-month-old boy got his esophagus and windpipe burned up in 2015 after swallowing a tiny cell battery, the Daily Mail reports. One of the most important ways to prevent accidental poisoning in children is for parents to make sure that batteries are always kept in a proper storage and are tightly attached to gadgets and toys.
