Held last April 2 at Wichita, Kansas, "Miss Unstoppable" once more showed the world how girls with developmental disabilities can be unstoppable. Gong on its third year with contestants ages 5 and up, showed everyone how they can be more than their impairment.
The Pageant: Miss Unstoppable
Just like any other pageants, the girls had undergone various workshops that sharpened how they handle themselves, especially when being interviewed and when advocating one's self, Parents reports. The Mighty also added that the girls also learned how to perform a dance number. During the fall workshop, each contestant was given a tiara sheet, where they write down what makes them "unstoppable." This simple activity made the girls realize that they are not defined by their disability and that they can do more and be "unstoppable"
"This is where they are the queens," Arc Director of Programs Martin Rothwell said. "They are the contestants, they are all going for that crown but even more important, when people said you can't do that, you'll never be a queen and all of a sudden they've got a crown on their head," KWCH 12 reported. Arc of Sedgwick County organized the annual Unstoppable Pageant.
Just like any normal pageant, the girls competed in interview, runway, talent, evening gown and how well they performed in the choreographed group dance during the "Miss Unstoppable" pageant.
The Crowned Miss Unstoppable 2016
As accustomed, the former Miss Unstoppable 2015 gave a brief talk on why children, like her, are unstoppable. During the pageant day, each girl received a state finalist award along with many others.
Rebecca was crowned as the new Miss Unstoppable 2016 during World Autism Awareness Day last April 2, finding that she perfectly embodies the theme of the pageant. She performed a beautiful folk song accompanied by violin and piano. She was completely charming all throughout the pageant. The audience just exclaimed every time she goes on stage.
During a quick interview with the newly crowned Miss Unstoppable, she looked at the camera and said: "I am not defined by my disability, I am unstoppable!" Check out the Miss Unstoppable recap video below:
