'X-Men: Apocalypse' Release Date, News & Update: The Dark Phoenix Set To Be The Next Film

In a few weeks' time, "X-Men" fans will get to witness the biggest fight of the mutant superheroes in "X-Men: Apocalypse." However, even before the film arrives, new reports suggest that the next "X-Men" film will cover "The Dark Phoenix Saga."

"The Dark Phoenix Saga" Will Follow After "X-Men: Apocalypse"

ComicBook.com reported that "X-Men" producers are considering "The Dark Phoenix Saga" as a potential follow up to "X-Men: Apocalypse." Per the report, "The Dark Phoenix Saga" is one of the most popular storylines in the "X-Men" history. This was featured in the 2006 film, "X-Men: The Last Stand" but "X-Men" fans were not happy and satisfied with the way it was portrayed.

"X-Men: Apocalypse" To Feature Jean Grey's Struggle

Doing the "The Dark Phoenix Saga" film after "X-Men: Apocalypse" is a huge possibility knowing that the upcoming film will introduce the younger Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) and her struggles as she deals with her power and the dark power that is consuming her. "And Jean she has not only has her telekenisis and her telepathy but she also knows inherently that something darker and more powerful is growing inside her and she doesn't quite know what it is," Bryan Singer told Entertainment Weekly.

"X-Men: Apocalypse" To Feature Jean Grey And Cyclops' Romance

Parent Herald previously reported that "X-Men: Apocalypse" will bring back the popular tandem of Jean Grey and Scott Summers a.k.a Cyclops. Bryan Singer teases that the pair did not fall in love at first sight. Cyclops was blind and Jean was the last thing he is interested. Both struggled with their superpower but will eventually find each other.

"In the beginning, she's the last thing he's interested in," Singer told EW. "When he first comes to the mansion, Scott's blind so he can't see her. Suddenly he gets some glasses and now he can see her and he's like 'Oh! That's Jean Grey.' Both of them are misfits in a way."

"X-Men: Apocalypse" will hit the big screens on May 27, 2016.
