Infidelity Crisis 2016: How A Smart Mattress Can Unmask A Cheating Partner

Would you buy a mattress that can kick your cheating partner out of bed? A new innovation from Spanish mattress manufacturer Durmet called Smarttress can detect an unfaithful lover.

According to Durmet, there's an increase in infidelity rates today, especially in Spain. That's why, the company is introducing a new smart mattress, which has a sole purpose of detecting whenever the bed is in "use" to see if your partner is being unfaithful, Tech Crunch notes.

"Seeing the latest research on infidelity in Spain and considering that 94 per cent of Spaniards' preferred place for love-making was in their own home, we thought we could give peace of mind to men and women, not only at night, but also during the day when they have to go out to work," Durmet spokesman Jose Antonio Muiño told The Telegraph.

Based on Smarttress' official promotional video, the smart mattress has motion or vibration sensors embedded in it. If those sensors are triggered, a notification will be sent to your phone.

In addition, Smarttress will also provide more details by using a speedometer to analyze the intensity and impact per minute. According to New York Magazine, the smart mattress retails at $1,750.

"Smarttress with Lover Detection System is a revolutionary mattress composed of 24 intelligent sensors capable of capturing the "suspicious" bed movement," the caption of its promotional video reads. "In this way if you are not at home, Smarttress will send an alert to your mobile when the mattress is being used."

Despite Durmet's promising innovation, some people seemed to be skeptical if Smarttress actually exists. Some even commented that a "fancy mattress" is not needed to catch a cheating lover in your bed, Re/code notes.

Muiño, however, said the company has received several requests from potentially interested buyers. Unfortunately, Muiño refused to share the exact number of Smarttress ordered.

Meanwhile, the actual beds are currently in the production phase. A video of the mattress being tested at a public event in Madrid, Spain can also be seen on YouTube.

Even though Smarttress appears to be a cost-efficient method to find out if your lover is unfaithful, Gizmodo reveals the latest smart mattress innovation is only limited on the bed. The idea of solving the global infidelity crisis through selling mattress to spy on one's partner (technology destroying privacy) is also concerning, the publication adds.
