"Castle" Season 8 will be ending with Stana Katic's departure from her role as Det. Kate Beckett. While ABC has not yet announced anything with regards to the show's future on TV following Katic's exit, many fans are already asking that to cancel the series since a story without Beckett seems to defeat its purpose.
Stana Katic recently announced her departure after "Castle" Season 8. ABC released a statement with regards to the actress' exit from the show, including that of Tamala Jones' character.
"Kate Beckett has been a beloved character on our hit series 'Castle' for the past eight years. We are grateful for Stana Katic's talent and dedication to the series and we hope to continue our relationship," said ABC in a statement.
Nathan Fillion also recently expressed his thoughts on Katic's departure from the show through a Twitter post.
Rumors are rife that Katic may have been fired from "Castle" because they were cutting costs and her character may be killed off in the end, reports Celeb Dirty Laundry. The show has not been getting good ratings since Season 7 and it even experienced a lot of backlash from fans after that "Caskett" breakup in the first half of Season 8.
While the network has yet to comment on the issue of whether or not "Castle" will still live on after Season 8, ABC Entertainment President Paul Lee previously told TVGuide.com that the show can still survive with or without Stana Katic or Nathan Fillion.
"We'd love for 'Castle' to keep going for many years to come," he said.
This led to rumors and speculations that a spinoff was in the works after "Castle" Season 8, as they could still continue the story even without Katic or Fillion in the show. However, many fans expressed their disappointment towards the show. Many fans believed that "Castle" Season 8 should be the series finale because the show would lose its purpose without the other half of "Caskett" in it.
