Global warming and climate change are among the major environmental problems that we are facing today. These issues lead to the rise in temperature of the earth. A new report suggests that March 2016 breaks the record for being the hottest March ever recorded.
March 2016 The Hottest March Ever
IFLScience reported that March 2016 is the hottest March recorded based on the data released by NASA and Japanese Meteorological Agency (JMA). The report suggests that the increase in temperature is pushing us to that 2°C (3.6°F) that scientists and researchers warned to be the tipping point.
Aside from being the hottest March on record, it also broke the record by the largest margin, similar to how February and January did it before. The temperature in March was 1.65°C (2.97°F) above the 1965 to 1980 average.
According to New York Times, this year is the record-breaking start for global temperatures. January, February and March passed the marks set in 2015. March is the 11th consecutive month to set a record high for temperatures.
Climate Change And El Nino
Per Climate Central, it has been challenging for scientists to answer the connection of global warming and El Niño. However, "super" El Niño is likely to occur twice as frequently in a warmer world. A study published in Nature Climate Change revealed that climate change doubles the frequency of super El Niño events.
El Niño phenomenon releases large amounts of heat from the Pacific Ocean into the atmosphere that results in irregular weather patterns across the globe. That is why we experience warm temperatures and heavy rains.
Humans Responsible For Global Warming
A new study published in Climate Dynamic revealed that humans are responsible for the global warming since 1950. Per National Wildlife Federation, the majority of the warming is due to the burning of coal, oil and gas.
Human activities like burning fossil fuels cause more greenhouse gases to build up in the atmosphere. As greenhouse gases piled up more heat is held in the earth that results in an increase in temperature.
