Health Technology News & Updates: Pregnancy Tests Going Digital With Bluetooth Technology

Women can now check if they are pregnant using a digital application. This breakthrough in pregnancy testing is considered to be a great leap from traditional kits available in stores.

Fortune said the first ever Bluetooth-enabled pregnancy test was made possible by household products manufacturer Church & Dwight. The product was reportedly unveiled in January during the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show.

First Response App On Android and iOS

Explaining how the digital pregnancy test works, the same report said it should be used with the First Response application on Android and iOS devices. The company said that it decided to come up with this technology since women rely mostly on their phones nowadays. "When seeking answers to questions, millennial mothers turn to their smartphones," the company said.

Women can use the app for a three-minute test which will have three options: Calm Me, Educate Me, and Entertain Me. Fortune explained that Calm Me will offer visuals that will relax the user, Educate Me offers information about conception and Entertain Me shows videos of animals and other funny objects.

Less Anxiety While You Wait

Consumerist noted that the app hopes to keep women busy while they wait for the results. When a result has been generated, the application will offer useful steps to women depending on a positive or negative finding.

It was added in a Drug Store News report that the app can offer advice on fertility, how to be healthy during pregnancy and nutrition. The package can be purchased for a retail price of $14.99 to $21.99 and comes with a plastic test and a code to be able to access the mobile application.

"First Response pioneered the first and only Bluetooth enabled pregnancy test and app access," the company said in a statement quoted by Consumerist. "Which instantly gives her the information she needs during her pregnancy journey on the device she's using most, her smartphone."
