A 25-year-old Indian woman has confessed that she has not eaten anything solid for as long as she can remember, saying she has simply been surviving off liquids, the Daily Mail reports.
Manju Dharra, from Sonipat, near New Delhi, suffers from achalasia, which causes her to vomit if and when she consumes solid foods. As a result, she only drinks four to five liters of milk every day in addition to tea, buttermilk and water.
Her mother, Bhagwati Dharra, said: "She takes only fluids like milk, tea, water, and sometimes juice. Mostly she takes milk, tea, buttermilk, water. If she eats solid food, she faces the problem of vomiting suddenly."
Manju said the condition is so bad, she can barely stand to look at solid food.
"If I eat something then I throw up and I feel very, very bad. Now I feel fear when I look at solid food," she explained.
Although she appears normal and is able to manage daily household chores, Manju frequently suffers from stomach pains. While she was growing up and refused to eat anything, her mother simply thought that she was a fussy eater or that she was simply being stubborn. But as time passed, she realized that her daughter was actually sick. Several doctors and treatments later, they still were without answers.
Since they do not have enough money, they could not afford to send her to a specialist to undergo surgery. Instead, they invested in a cow that provides her with the milk that she needs.
"Manju is one of seven children - she has two brothers and five sisters and the rest of the family is healthy and none of them suffer from the same condition," Bhagwati said.
