Cervical cancer is one of the most prevalent cancers that many women suffer from as an estimated 12,900 new cases were diagnosed in 2015. Here are seven warning signs of cervical cancer, which can help with detection in the early stages of its development.
1. Pelvic Pain
Pelvic pain is often associated with PMS, which makes this symptom quite difficult to point out. However, when the cramps and aches last more frequent and for an extended period of time, this may be an early warning sign of cervical cancer.
2. Leg Pain
Similarly, cervical cancer also causes pain and swelling in the legs since the cancer obstructs blood flow that causes the swelling. Swollen legs often create a sore and painful sensation, which would make it hard to walk or even move the legs.
3. Vaginal Discharge
While odorless and clear discharge is normal, vaginal discharge that is heavy, pale, brown, mixed with blood, or smells foul may be a warning sign of cervical cancer. Any unusual signs of discharge will always be a cause for concern regardless of the reason for the discharge.
4. Irregular Bleeding
Most women with cervical cancer experience abnormal bleeding as the cancer creates abnormal capillaries that break and cause the bleed. Often times, abnormal bleeding takes place between periods, after menopause or even after sexual intercourse.
5. Urination Changes
A stinging sensation or feeling of discomfort when peeing could not just be just a sign of a possible urinary tract infection. These symptoms, along with frequent urination and a change in the appearance of urine itself, could be early warning signs of cervical cancer.
6. Bloated Belly Or Feeling Full
Constantly feeling bloated for more than two weeks, even after menstrual periods have ended, could be an early warning sign of cervical cancer. Feeling full, loss of appetite and other appetite changes may also be symptoms of the disease in the cervix.
7. Uncomfortable Sex
Although this particular symptom occurs when the cancer is more advanced, pain during sex may be accompanied by thick and foul-smelling discharge. This warning sign of cervical cancer means that the tumors have spread throughout the tissue and reproductive organs.
