Celebrity transgender woman Caitlyn Jenner has encouraged Republican lawmakers to be aware of the issues surrounding the transgender community. She stressed that transgenders should not be dictated to use bathrooms based on their gender at birth.
According to BuzzFeed, Jenner saw the need for these lawmakers to properly study transgender issues. "As far as the GOP and the Republican side of it, they certainly need more education [on trans issues]," she was quoted by the same report as saying.
Jenner said that Democrats are more well-versed on trans issues but noted that she is not a "one-issue voter." The former Olympian also shared that she could either vote for Ted Cruz or Donald Trump for president.
Touching on the "bathroom bills" in the country, the transgender celebrity that these legislations is one way of bullying members of the community. "The government's coming down on it. It's just like more bullying. They don't feel like they can live their lives," Jenner added.
She said that the concerns of most people on their safety should not really be considered as problems since there are no incidents involving transgenders. "You know, as far as politicians saying that it's not safe to let 'the guy' into the restroom, there are no cases of trans people in restrooms ever being arrested, ever having any problems," she added. "They just want to go in and take a pee and get out of there."
Jenner mentioned in The Blaze report that there are also laws in place which protect women and children from molestation. She explained that these restrictions just stop transgender individuals from feeling good about themselves and their gender identity.
BuzzFeed said the Kardashian patriarch earlier praised business establishments in North Carolina for boycotting the state's bathroom bill saying it was the right thing for them to do. She also said that she would not think twice of using a female's restroom in the state.
"If I was in North Carolina right now I'd go right into the ladies' room. I'd have no problem," Jenner added. "I haven't been in a men's room in over a year."
