"Sherlock" Season 4 spoilers are hinting on the return of Andrew Scott as Moriarty. The official synopsis for the upcoming season reveals that "ghosts of the past" will be returning to haunt Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) and John Watson (Martin Freeman).

This led to speculations that Moriarty will be back from the dead in "Sherlock" Season 4. Add this to Scott's video greeting during the Christmas special "The Abominable Bride," which fueled these speculations even more.

According to Heat World, Benedict Cumberbatch recently shared that "Sherlock" Season 4 will be worth the wait. While Cumberbatch did not exactly reveal whether Sherlock's nemesis will be back, the outlet notes on the possibility of a final showdown between the two.

"I can't wait for everyone to see season 4. But you will have to wait ... though not for long ... And it will be worth it," said Cumberbatch.

Indeed, fans will still have quite a long time to wait for "Sherlock" Season 4. Martin Freeman recently revealed to "The Graham Norton Show" that the BBC drama will be returning this year, according to Independent.

"We are back filming now and the three shows will, I imagine, be out around Christmas," said Freeman.

This "Sherlock" Season 4 air date is a month earlier than what was initially speculated in several reports. It was previously believed that the BBC series will be returning to the small screens in January 2017.
