Viral Video: Teenager 'Promposes' To Friend With Down Syndrome In A Coffee Shop

A one of a kind promposal has gone viral on Facebook, showing a teenaged girl asking her friend and co-worker, who has Down syndrome, to be her prom date. Lillie Wright asked her friend Trevor Jefferson while he was working in Beau's Coffee in Wilmington, North Carolina.

Promposal Used Witty Poem

The video clip of the promposal shows Wright, 17, holding up a sign that said: "I like coffee, I like tea. Would you go to prom with me?" The poem was written in a big white paper in call caps, with the word prom written in red ink.

Jefferson, 21, reads the poem and answers, "Yes!" with a big smile on his face. He then proceeds to wrap his arms around Lillie and the two hug happily, surrounded by their family and friends.

Promposal Was "Completely Natural"

Beau's Coffee, where Trevor works, employs those with intellectual and developmental disabilities, according to Fox News. Lillie is the daughter of Beau's Coffee shop owner, Amy Wright.

It was Amy who caught the promposal on camera. "Lillie's decision to ask Trevor was completely natural, she has two siblings with Down syndrome," Wright said, as per ABC News. "Lillie values Trevor as a person and a friend.... Everyone at Beau's Coffee loves Trevor and was happy to share in the moment," Wright added.

The promposal, which happened on April 25, has evidently touched many people's hearts. WBT reported that since the time it was posted, the promposal video had already gained more than 400,000 views on Facebook.

A Promposal With A Trip To Hawaii

Meanwhile, a high school senior asked his longtime girlfriend to be his prom date with a trip to Hawaii that comes as a package, New York Daily News reported. Thomas Maher first posted a poll on Twitter, asking people "Which one one? :)" with Mexico, Hawaii and California as the choices.

Hawaii topped the choices, garnering 58% of the vote. Maher and longtime girlfriend Annalisa Wilfert will leave after their graduation from Marcos De Niza High School in Tempe, Arizona. The two have been dating since their freshman year.
