Musician Zedd has recorded a new version of Kesha's song "True Colors" with the 29-year-old singer-songwriter. The duo first performed the song in an appearance on the first weekend of Coachella.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the song was originally set to be released Friday but came out late Thursday. "True Colors" was Kesha's first single prior to her hit song "Timber."
On his Instagram page, Zedd earlier posted a teaser video of the single. It came with the caption "TOMORROW #TrueColors #FreeKesha." The song has been anticipated by many since their appearance earlier this month.
A photo of the artwork for the song was also uploaded by Zedd. A wooden ornate appeared with a big letter "Z" in the middle. "Music can be freedom," read the caption of the photo.
The Coachella performance became the talk of the town since it was Kesha's first-ever appearance after being involved in a legal battle where she accused former producer Dr. Luke of assault. The same report said this collaboration is a testament to the singer's great vocal talent and that better things are waiting for her in the music industry.
Xpose.ie added that Zedd has been one of the known supporters of Kesha when she accused Dr. Luke of assaulting her and hoped to break free from the record label Kemosabe. He reportedly offered to produce a single for Kesha after their Coachella performance.
It was also noted that Dr. Luke's spokesperson has reacted to the new release saying that Kesha is now free to do records with other producers. "The court repeatedly stated Kesha is already free to record without Dr. Luke," the spokesperson was quoted by Xpose.ie as saying.
On his Twitter account, Zedd also clarified that they did not break any rules in releasing the single. "Just to clarify: We didn't use any loopholes. Kemosabe / RCA gave us permission to release this song!" he tweeted.
