The Mysterious Disappearance of Amelia Earhart
The disappearance of Amelia Earhart has been dubbed as one of the greatest mysteries of the 20th century. The iconic modern hero and her navigator, Fred Noonan, vanished at the Pacific Ocean on July 2, 1937, while attempting the first round-the-world-flight using Lockheed Electra.

Failed Efforts To Find Amelia Earhart
After Amelia Earhart's Lockheed Electra disappeared over the Pacific Ocean, the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard launched the most expensive and biggest air and sea search in American history. However, they failed to trace the remains of the aircraft and two seasoned flyers. Her husband, George Putnam, also financed his own search, however, it ended empty-handed.
In 2015, The International Group for Historic Aircraft Recovery (TIGHAR) carried out an expedition called "Niku VIII" in an attempt to solve Amelia Earhart's mysterious disappearance. However, the search ended with no immediate answers. TIGHAR has long been investigating how Amelia Earhart and Fred Noonan disappeared.
