Here's something travel buffs would sure be giddy about: Google is planning to release a mobile travel application anytime soon.
Android Police first spilled the beans and the news was soon followed by leaked screenshots of the mobile application that would be called Google Trips.
Tech Crunch presumes that access to Google Trips is one of the first rewards promised to Google's Local Guides' members and it might probably be right. Because for those who want first dibs on the travel mobile application, Google is requiring membership to their Local Guides' program. Once a member, an invite will be sent to the registrant's email, giving a teaser to a "new travel assistant for Android and I-Phone."
Google Trips is an innovation of the search engine's existing Destinations' feature which helps travelers look for must-visits in a certain area, how to get there and how much it would cost. While Destinations is only a page that will pop on mobile phones or tablets, Google Trips is a full-blown, mobile travel application.
It will make use of the traveler's flight schedule and hotel reservation to help him/her locate top destinations within and beyond the vicinity, calculate transportation and other costs, provide food and drink options, and aid with city maps and public transportation routes. These are divided into sections, "Getting Around," "Things to Do," "Reservations," "Food and Drink," and "Need to Know." The best part about the application is that everything can be saved and viewed even when there's no Internet connection.
Next Web contacted Google for confirmation and it only has this to say, "We love to travel and are hard at work dreaming up new ways to make the travel experience hassle-free. While we do that, sit tight and keep on using our amazing tools like Google Flights, Hotel Search and Destinations on Google to plan your next adventure."
