Boy With Special Needs Gets Asked By 37 Girls To Prom

Sammy Lamar got the invitations of his lifetime. The boy with developmental challenges was asked by all 37 girls in his class for their high school prom.

The Boy With 37 Dates

Sammy is just a ray of sunshine in the hallways of Penn Cambria High School. "It doesn't matter if you're a freshman or a senior, everyone knows Sammy," Abby Harvey said, one of the students in Penn Cambria, via Parenting.

Sammy has been around the district for 16 years. He is currently 21 years old, 12 News added. Since everybody loves Sammy, they wanted to give him a wonderful memory of his senior year.

How It Went Down

The idea all started when Karingtin Sklowdowski had the urge to ask Sammy to be her date. "It makes me feel great knowing that he's going to have this memory forever that every senior should have," she says. "They should all have that memory of enjoying senior prom and to remember it for a lifetime."

So, along with her classmates, they all asked Sammy to be their date, creating a sign with a message: "Sammy Will You Go to Prom With Us?" Before doing this, the girls sent a letter to his mom, Diana Lamar, asking for her permission.

Appreciative Parents

Diana felt sincerely touched by the loving gesture. "I think other parents with special needs kids understand that your biggest fear when they start school is that they're going to be picked on or made fun of or bullied," Diana said to 12 News.

"They already have enough going on that they don't need that too," Lamar continued. "We've never, ever encountered that at Penn Cambria. The kids here have been amazing."

Sammy Lamar Crowned As Prom King

In a night that he won't easily forget, Sammy was crowned as the Prom King at the Lakemont Casino on Saturday, reports WJAC TV. As this is Sammy's last year with the district, he could now leave the district in style. Wearing a tux and sunglasses, his crown as Prom King is the perfect addition to his outfit.

Sammy's mom and dad are extremely humbled by all the love and support Sammy received from the school and his classmates. The next big event will be his graduation on June 4.
