Britax Recalls 60,000 Child Car Seats to Avoid Choking Hazard

Britax, one of the leading manufacturers of automotive safety equipment and accessories announced a voluntary recall of its convertible car seats citing choking hazard.

Nearly, 60,000 units of models Boulevard 70-G3, Pavilion 70-G3, and Advocate 70-G3 Convertible Car Seats made during the period of June 1 to Aug. 31 are affected with the recall issued this week.

All the recalled products included an advanced harness system called Harness Ultra-Guard System Chest (HUGS) Pads to protect a child from head injuries during a crash. To provide comfort, these pads were prepared with flexible and soft material.

The current recall notice comes after the company received some complaints from parents of infants biting and swallowing small pieces of the pads.

Following are the model numbers involved in the recall notice :

E9LJ91A, E9LJ91M,E9LJ91S, E9LJ92E, E9LJ93P, E9LJ93S, E9LK91A, E9LK31A, E9LK31Q, E9LK32D, E9LK32Z,E9LK33Q, E9LL11A, E9LL11Q, E9LL12D, E9LL12Z, E9LG81A, E9LG83N, E9LG83P, E9LG83X, E9LG83Y, E9LL21A, E9LL23P, E9LL23Y.

Model number and manufacture date can be found on the child's left hand side of the seat, near the head area, under the cover. As a solution for the problem, the company has come forward with a remedy kit with two replacement HUGS Pads. According to the authorities, the pads are made from a finer material that is not easy to tear apart.

"Even if your child is not biting or chewing on the HUGS Chest Pads, Britax strongly recommends that you replace the HUGS Pads to prevent this from potentially occurring," a statement appeared on the official website of Britax said.
