Real-Life Hoverboard Sets Guinness World Record: 'Back To The Future II' Inspired Flyboard Air Is Real

Marty McFly's "Back To The Future II" hoverboard has indeed come to life with Flyboard Air by Franky Zapata. Not only is the Flyboard Air real, but it also accomplished what Marty McFly did not in "Back To The Future II," set a hoverboard Guinness World Record.

Popular Mechanics reports that Franky Zapata debuted the Flyboard Air hoverboard in a promotional video. However, most viewers took the Flyboard Air hoverboard promo as a "Back To The Future II" type gimmick.

Unknown to most, Franky Zapata had actually been gearing up to have the Flyboard Air hoverboard tested for distance record. That's what Franky Zapata and his Flyboard Air hoverboard did.

The Flyboard Air hoverboard uses four clustered turbo jets underside of the board. This is paired by Franky Zapata with a kerosene pack strapped to his back and a thrust controller in his hands. Despite the turbo jets, the Flyboard Air hoverboard is not as loud as would have been expected.

This is despite Franky Zapata's description of his Guinness World Record holding device. According to Frank Zapata, the Flyboard Air hoverboard makes as much noise as racing motorcycles.

The Flyboard Air hoverboard is not just bearable noise-wise. It is also quite the steady transporter as the Flyboard Air hoverboard uses drone stabilization software for controlling the turbo jets.

The Flyboard Air hoverboard then travelled along the coast of France all the way to Sausset-les-Pins port. For the Guinness World record, the Flyboard Air hoverboard completed a two-kilometer trip.

In all the Flyboard Air hoverboard travelled a distance of 7,388 feet within 3 minutes and 55 seconds. According to Guinness World Record, Franky Zapata and his Flyboard Air hoverboard beat out the 2015 record held by Catalin Alexandru Duru of Canada. The 2015 Guinness World Record set by Catalin Alexandru Duru was 905 feet and 2 inches.
