Smartwatches are now a sought after and have been dominating the market for quite awhile now. However, the wearable technology causes a little confusion if it counts as a fashion fad or a technology trend. Fitbit CEO James Park noticed that other smartwatches -- like the Apple Watch -- are using and promoting its products in a wrong way.
Apple Vs. FitBit
According to CSMonitor, James Park believed the "computing platform" Apple Watch embodies is not the proper way to credit the wearable technology. "That's really the wrong way to approach this category from the very beginning," Park told the New York Times.
James Park compared his company, FitBit, to Apple and said their "slim bracelets" characterize a "different and superior" methodology than Apple Watch. "We look at it from a consumer point of view," he said about their policy. Hence, James Park is not bothered that FitBit is being compared to Apple, PC Mag reported.
FitBit Product Easier To Use Than Apple Watch
James Park makes sure that FitBit will stick to making their products simple in order to be user-friendly. Later, when the consumers have been familiar with its device, FitBit will gradually add new features.
In contrast with Apple, James Park described the Apple Watch as a gadget that is instantly installed with a selection of features and capabilities. He claimed that Apple made the Apple Watch more intricate and complicated to use for consumers.
FitBit And Apple Watch Features Compared
FitBit has simple "activity and fitness" tracking features all rolled in a single-mode device, CNET cited. The Apple Watch, on the other hand, carries numerous applications, like "time keeping, health tracking," in addition to iPhone backup and calculating, which James Park considers as a big problem.
"I think one of the general knocks against smartwatches is that people still don't know what they're good for," James Park continued. "So they've crammed everything in."
FitBick And Apple Watch's Market Share
In a data made by IDC, as per PC Mag, FitBit became as the "undisputed worldwide leader of wearable devices" in 2015. It has a 29.5 percent market share throughout the fourth quarter of the said year.
FitBit is followed by Apple in the second position with 15 percent market share. However, Apple's "shipment volume" rises, but only a little, on the said period from the previous quarter.
