The effects of climate change are now evidently seen all over the world. Aside from the environment, global warming is now affecting the oceans resulting to lower oxygen that will distress every living thing underwater.
The changing wind and temperature caused by global warming is resulting to warm surface water temperature that makes the ocean have less oxygen needed, as per the U.S. National Center for Atmospheric Research. In fact, from the latest study published in the journal Global Biogeochemical Cycles, it revealed the effects of deoxygenation are now evident in some parts of the Pacific Ocean, according to VOA.
The Possible Deoxygenation Of Oceans
Tech Times reported Matthew Long along with his team at NCAR found the amount of oxygen in the oceans is slowly depleting. However, the researchers are uncertain on the amount of the global warming in the decrease of oxygen.
From the researchers' time frame, the ocean can lose a massive amount of oxygen in the coming decades. They are also able to conclude that climate change can devastate the ocean's "natural ability" to control deoxygenation.
The Effects Of Decreasing Oxygen
Hence, all the living creatures at the bottom of the ocean will have a hard time to breathe, Tech Times cited. Curtis Deutsch, the researcher at the University of Washington's School of Oceanography, explained when the ocean's water gets warmer, the amount of oxygen automatically goes down.
Lighthouse News Daily noted the Indian Ocean might face the worst impact of the low oxygen levels as it has been long experiencing the warm water. Other oceans in the world will feel the effects of the reducing oxygen in the 2030s to 2040s.
The researchers also added that oxygen helps to determine which part of the ocean fish and other sea organisms can live or not. Sadly, there are some parts of the oceans that have "dead zones," where the marine animals are not getting enough oxygen to live. It can either die or swim somewhere else to survive.
