Chan Zuckerberg Initiative Makes US Deputy Secretary of Education Jim Shelton Head Of Education Efforts

United States Deputy Secretary of Education Jim Shelton will be leading the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative in helping people become better. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed the good news on the social media site Thursday.

In a post, the CEO said Shelton will lead the education efforts of the initiative which he and his wife, Priscilla Chan, started. Mark Zuckerberg explained that they chose the education expert because he has done remarkable work in business and government.

"He was deputy secretary of the US Department of Education, led education efforts at the Gates Foundation, and most recently was president of a public company focused on education technology," the Facebook CEO said. Mark Zuckerberg said that they are excited to work hand in hand with Shelton.

The Facebook co-founder also expressed hopes that they will be successful in developing human potential and also promoting equality among many. This is a long term mission and progress won't happen overnight," Mark Zuckerberg.

Android Headlines said the initiative was launched by the couple in December last year alongside the birth of their daughter, Max. They wanted to help people improve in what they can do and also harness their potentials. With the slogan, "Advancing human potential and promoting equality," Mark Zuckerberg and his wife promised to give 99 percent of their shares on Facebook for this initiative.

In terms of education, Mark Zuckerberg sees "personalized learning" as the answer to acquiring more knowledge and learning new things. He claimed that this will be a big part of their initiative which will include, not only students, but parents and teachers as well.

It was added in the same report that many students discontinue with their studies because of illness and poverty, among others. Solutions are expected to be suggested on long-running issues in education. Communities with nothing to turn to will also be the highlight of this project.
