The trailer for "Game of Thrones" Season 6 Episode 3 has definitely confirmed that the HBO show will finally reveal what happened at the Tower of Joy during Robert Baratheon's Rebellion. So will "Game of Thrones" confirm the most popular fan theory about Jon Snow's parentage or is Lyanna Stark's secret with Ned Stark a completely different matter?
The Tower Of Joy Teaser
The "Game of Thrones" Season 6 trailer for the third episode (via TVGuide) teases Jon Snow's resurrection, Arya Stark's training, Cersei Lannister's anger and Lord Karstark's gift for Ramsay Bolton. However, the "Oathtaker" preview ends with a shot of Bran Stark and the Three-Eyed Raven at the Tower of Joy watching as the young Ned Stark faces off against Ser Arthur Dayne. The Kingsguard declares, "And now it begins." Ned's response is somehow an allusion to the "Game of Thrones" fans' long wait to find out what happened in the Tower of Joy: "Now it ends."
What Happened In The Tower Of Joy?
In George R.R. Martin's book series "A Song of Ice and Fire," Robert Baratheon's Rebellion happened because Crown Prince Rhaegar Targaryen had allegedly kidnapped Robert's betrothed Lyanna Stark. After a long search, Ned discovers that Rhaegar Targaryen had taken Lyanna Stark to the Tower of Joy but is being watched by the Kingsguard. Although Ned manages to defeat Arthur Dayne, he is shocked to find his sister dying in a pool of blood. It is then that the dying Lyanna Stark forces Ned to make a promise.
How Is The Tower Of Joy Connected To Jon Snow?
The "Game of Thrones" R+L=J theory suggests that Lyanna Stark had willingly eloped with Rhaegar Targaryen and had gotten pregnant with his child. In the Tower of Joy, she actually dies of childbirth and makes Ned Stark promise not to reveal her baby's true parentage to anyone, especially to Robert Baratheon. That baby will eventually be adopted by Ned Stark and raised to become Jon Snow. This means that Jon Snow's parents could be Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen.
Jon Snow's parentage has always been a major "Game of Thrones" mystery since the first season, and it looks like the truth might possibly be revealed. Find out what Lyanna Stark's secret was in the Tower of Joy in "Oathtaker." The third episode of "Game of Thrones" Season 6 will air on HBO on May 8.
