Artificial Intelligence News: Slate Readers Not Convinced About AI Being A Threat, Think Humans Exploiting AI Are More Dangerous

Artificial Intelligence or AI is one of the favorite topics today. AI has the potential of changing the future and making life more convenient. However, some remain reserved because of the potential threats AI may bring to humanity. Learn what Slate readers think about AI here.

AI May Lead To Job Displacement

Parent Herald previously reported that middle and working class may face job displacement due to AI. Some of the common jobs that AI is expected to take over are taxi drivers and employees in factory-settings per BBC.

Slate readers also think of the same thing. For them, the real problem or threat about AI is its ability to make more jobs obsolete, which will strain the social fabric.

AI Cannot Surpass Humans

About the issue of AI endangering humans, many Slate readers think that it is silly. One reader even commented that it's unlikely to get an AI similar to the "Terminator." Another reader wrote, "Evil robots probably won't exist because there is no reason for them to be programmed that way."

While AI is faster and more intelligent that average men, there are still Slate readers who are not convinced with its full potential of having the same intelligence as men do. "Computers just don't think like we do from what I understand," one reader wrote.

Another reader suggested that AI is a smart machine and its concept of interest might not bear. We should instead worry the interest of private and military AI if it aligns with the common good.

Humans Are A Bigger Threat

Meanwhile, some readers think that humans are more threat than AI. "I'm worried about people deliberately exploiting A.I. in ways that are detrimental to human prosperity," one wrote. Another one commented that terrorist groups and enemy nation states are more dangerous.
