Kristin Cavallari defends decision not to get sons vaccinated

Kristin Cavallari said she is against vaccinating her kids because she believes it is linked to autism.

The expectant mother appeared on the Fox Business show "The Independents" on Thursday and defended her and husband Jay Cutler's decision.

"You know what, I've read too many books about autism," the "Hills" reality star began, said Us Magazine. "There is a pediatric group called Homestead or, shoot, Homestead or Home First - now I have pregnancy brain, I got them confused - but they've never vaccinated any of their children and they've never had one case of autism. And now, one in 88 boys is autistic, which is a really scary statistic."

The host of the show was quick with a retort.

"Well, my mom vaccinated us, and she doesn't have any cases of autism either," host and ex-MTV VJ Lisa Kennedy Montgomery argued. "Isn't that weird?"

Cavallari, 27, later clarified her position in an interview with "Fox & Friends" on Friday when asked about the negative response she received from her comments.

"It is a harsh response," she said. "You know, it's not something that I publicly wanted to come out and say. I was in an interview and it came up, and it wasn't what I was expecting."

She continued: "But, you know, listen, to each their own. I understand both sides of it. I've read too many books about autism and there's some scary statistics out there. It's our personal choice, you know, and if you're really concerned about your kid, then get them vaccinated and it shouldn't be a problem."

The Chinese Laundry shoe designer, who shares the same vaccination principles as "The View" co-host Jenny McCarthy, talked in other news about how she is "counting down the days" until the birth of her second baby boy.

"I feel like I have a bowling ball in my stomach. I crave sweet things, but it's no different than when I'm not pregnant," she told the Gossip Center.

The "Laguna Beach" star will return to television alongside "Fashion Star's" Orly Shani hosting E!'s new interactive talk show "The Fabulist," which premieres March 17.
