How Pregnancy Saved The Life Of An Ovarian Cancer Patient

A mother shared how pregnancy saved her life from cancer. She recounted that her pregnancy led to the discovery of a large mass which was growing near the baby.

Fox 8 reported that 27 years ago Ivette Alicea gave birth to a healthy baby girl, Amanda. Frequent visits to the doctor helped her detect a cancerous mass inside her ovary. "I never would have known I had cancer if I hadn't been pregnant," Alicea said in a People exclusive.

The mother claimed that she already manifested symptoms of ovarian cancer years before she became pregnant. She, however, did not mind these and thought that these were just part of her menstrual cycle. "I thought I was having a miscarriage," Alicea noted.

Ovarian Cancer Symptoms

Ovarian cancer usually carries signs like stomach pain, frequent urination, vomiting and nausea which are usually associated with menstrual cycles. After giving birth to her daughter, the mother had to undergo months of chemo te get rid of cancer cells in her body.

Having experienced this, Alicea told People that women should be properly informed about ovarian cancer. She noted that awareness is very important to fight the disease.

A campaign on making people aware of the symptoms of ovarian cancer is what Alicea plans to do for the World Ovarian Cancer Day. She shares how she and her baby both saved each other's lives.

Thankful For Her Daughter

"I would have died. We both might not be here," Alicea said of his cancer diagnosis in 1998. She is not the only one thankful for surviving the disease. Amanda has since been grateful for her mom for prioritizing her life.

"You are easily the most incredible human I have or will ever encounter in my entire life," Amanda told People. "Not only are you strong and beautiful, but you chose me over you and that's huge. You chose my life over yours. No one will ever love me that much."
