Grandma Betty wins hearts of thousands on Instagram as she battles cancer with a smile

An 80-year-old grandmother battling cancer has gained support and following from more than 168,000 Instagram users after her grandson, Zach Belden, created an account on her behalf.

Belden decided to create the Instagram account in January to show support for Betty Simpson's battle with cancer. Since then, her account has gone viral, including among A-list celebrities, among them Pharrell Williams.

On Instagram, Simpson goes by @GrandmaBetty33. Her posts range from messages specifically directed to her fans, videos of her busting some moves to the latest tunes, to images capturing her daily whereabouts.

During an in interview with ABC, Simpson shared that her grandson set up the account out of love.

"He doesn't want to lose me and he's just good to me."

Both Simpson and Belden are overwhelmed by all of the support they've received.

"Let's continue to spread the world that cancer CAN be fought, and being happy while fighting it is most certainly possible," Belden posted to the account.

Simpson's grandson has also opened a P.O. Box for "Grandma Betty."

"Guess who has a P.O Box? That's right, Grandma Betty now has a P.O. Box that is ready to receive letters! Have a story you want grandma to hear? No problem. Please address the letters to Grandma Betty, or Grandma Betty and Family in Jeffersonville, Indiana, Zip Code 47131 P.O. Box #383!" he posted on Instagram along with a photo of a key.
