The cast and director of "Princess Diaries" have been in talks about doing a third movie. Anne Hathaway, Julie Andrews and Garry Marshall apparently had a Skype session to discuss their return for the third film. However, Disney has not yet made any official announcements on whether or not "Princess Diaries 3" is indeed happening.
"[Anne Hathaway] came into my office pregnant," revealed "Princess Diaries 3" director Garry Marshall via Vanity Fair. "She sat down next to my desk, put her computer on my desk, pushed three buttons, and suddenly Julie Andrews was on the screen from Long Island, New York!"
Julie Andrews played Queen Dowager Clarisse Renaldi in the "Princess Diaries" films and Garry Marshall confirmed that the legendary actress is up for reprising her role in "Princess Diaries 3" once Disney gives it a go. However, Marshall also dished that he might not be sitting on the director's chair this time around as he's 81. "I will certainly take part in it, though," he told Vanity Fair.
"Princess Diaries 3" Another Cast Confirms Return
Meanwhile, Hector Elizondo, who played the queen's head of security in the movie, confirmed that people are putting "Princess Diaries 3" together. "Of course there is, they're fashioning it now. It'll be a wonderful reunion," he said per Huffington Post. "Annie has become a wonderful artist and now a mother, a new mother!"
He also said joining "Princess Diaries 3" would be fun because of the brand's success. He believes that his character, Joe, has a great impact to its young viewers. "It's an adult they can trust and who doesn't talk down at kids," he said. "He talks at their level and maybe a little higher, so he makes them reach."
"Princess Diaries 3" Trying To Bring Chris Pine Back Too
Garry Marshall is definitely taking an active part and he's trying to convince Chris Pine to return for "Princess Diaries 3." The actor played Lord Nicholas Devereaux in "Princess Diaries: Royal Engagement" and has hinted that he's also willing to do a new movie, per Bustle. However, the final book of "Princess Diaries," which was written by Meg Cabot, had Princess Mia (Anne Hathaway) marrying her teenage buddy Michael. It remains to be seen how "Princess Diaries 3" will fit Pine's role.
Meanwhile, Cabot recently said that she's not confirming nor denying whether Disney is really making the third movie. "We all just need to keep our fingers crossed and hope that it all works out with everybody's schedules, and then maybe miracles happen," the author told Red Eye Chicago.
