Known as the chronic autoimmune disease, lupus is one of the most lethal diseases that can eat up the entire body that doesn't have any cure. Contrary to the popular claims, however, researchers announced that they already found a drug that could reverse lupus.
Before everyone gets too excited, the study was only done on mice. The study was done by the researchers at the University of Florida, Gainesville and was published in "Science Translational Medicine".
According to Healthline, the study which was done on mice revealed that the drug inhibited the mice's metabolic pathways in the immune system fighting lupus. It was mentioned that the researchers might have found solution to end lupus. Their aim was to change the way the body's If it works to limit the metabolism of cancer cells, should work to limit metabolism in T cells, immune system works by using energy which can potentially reverse the way lupus attacks the body.
"The most surprising result of this study was that the combination of the two metabolic inhibitors were needed to reverse the disease," Morel said. "If the T cell is normal, the disease gets better, If it works to limit the metabolism of cancer cells, should work to limit metabolism in T cells. That suggests that metabolic inhibitors can also be used to treat patients," Morel said. "It's the first time has shown that it can have an effect on the symptoms and manifestation of lupus by normalization of cellular metabolism."
The researchers came into conclusion that in order for them to fight lupus, they need two metabolic inhibitors in order for them to fight the disease. The researchers have not yet tested the cure for lupus on humans.
The cure for lupus is not yet distributed for mass consumption as it is not yet fully approved on humans. Web Md noted that patients diagnosed with lupus should stay away from stress. It was also noted that lupus patients should minimize undergoing fatigue.
Web Md also mentioned that meditation and yoga can help a person with lupus. Keeping the mind stress free and calm plays an important role to those who are dealing with the autoimmune disease.
