After preparing for prom for six months, Aniya Wolf didn't even get to dance as she was kicked off the prom venue before she got to join her other classmates. Her only fault was not wearing a dress to the prom as she showed up in a full tuxedo.
Wolf was a junior at Bishop McDevitt High School in Harrisburg, P.A. Wolf said that a last minute email was sent to her informing her of the policy for girls that they should "wear a formal dress."
Mcd has completely contradicted what they teach us. Aniya was dressed modestly and wasnt disrespectful in any way. #suitsforaniya

When Wolf's mother came to find out, she immediately called the school and told them that what the school is doing to Wolf was unfair. She said that she was able to read the dress code to wear a formal dress and she didn't believe that a suit is not allowed. She also believed that her daughter looked beautiful in a tuxedo.
School administrators, according to Huffington Post, said that they have sent out the letter six months before the prom. The letter specifically states that the dress code is that girls must wear formal dress.
There was also a specific warning that "students who failed to follow the dress code would not be admitted." A suit is not close to being a dress, which was why Wolf was not made to join the prom, having arrived in a suit.
WE SHOULD THROW ANIYA A PROM AND ALL WEAR SUITS!! Everyone's invited! #suitsforaniya

"I think my experience shouldn't be any different than anyone else's because of something I was born with," Wolf said after having been kicked off the prom. CNN reported that Wolf was a lesbian and had always been comfortable with wearing masculine clothing. She also emphasized that she has been like that since she was little and not the type to play with Barbie dolls.
.@AniyaWolf I don't know you but I just read your prom story and I'm really sorry that happened. You looked awesome! Glad you stood up! — Andy Mientus (@andymientus) May 9, 2016
Some of Wolf's classmates and schoolmates supported her. The hashtag #suitsforaniya was immediately started after the incident. Another school even invited Aniya to join their prom and that she's welcome even if she would be wearing a suit.
