Disney Infinity might have two new releases in the next two months, but it looks like the toy-game line will officially be discontinued by June. But what has made Disney decide to stop adding new updates to Infinity?
The End of Disney Infinity
Disney Interactive GM John Blackburn made the announcement on the blog site. "Our goal for Disney Infinity was to bring the best of Disney storytelling to life in homes around the world, and with your support we accomplished that," he wrote. "We hope you had as much fun playing the game as we had making it."
In addition to discontinuing Infinity, Disney has also decided to shut down Avalanche Software (via Kotaku). The studio in Utah is responsible for creating Infinity, but now 300 Avalanche Software employees are expected to lose their jobs.
Why Is Disney Discontinuing Infinity?
Disney's Bob Iger had spoken up about the decision, stating that "the risk has caught up" with Disney Interactive. "[The video game] business is a changing business," Iger said during a call with investors.
"We did not have enough confidence in the business in terms of it being stable enough," he continued. Bob Iger also revealed that although the first Disney Infinity installment was highly successful, the succeeding releases saw a great decrease in sales.
Disney has also released a statement about the end of Infinity. "This was a difficult decision that we did not take lightly given the quality of Disney Infinity and its many passionate fans," the company said in a statement.
Disney Infinity's Last Two Releases
According to Kotaku, Disney has previously announced that a new edition of Infinity will be released in 2016. However, there are two new releases in the following months; "Alice Through The Looking Glass" in May as well as "Finding Dory" in June. There will be no further updates to Disney Infinity after the two new releases this year.
