WhatsApp recently launched a desktop version of its apps. Previously, the company had apps for iOS, Android, Windows Phone and Blackberry only. Fans have long been longing for a desktop version, so they're surely ecstatic now.
The new desktop version allows users to enjoy the apps on operating systems like Windows 8 and above, and Mac OS X 10.9 (Mavericks) and above.
WhatsApp Now On PC
The Independent reports that the WhatsApp desktop version provides a fix to what would arguably be the app’s biggest issue. In 2015, the company launched its messaging platform. 16 months later, it was made available on the PC, since it was only possible to chat on a desktop computer via the web version or third-party apps.
According to WhatsApp, the new form would allow users to stay in touch anytime or anywhere, using either their mobile device or computer. The company stated that similar to WhatsApp Web, the desktop app is basically an extension of the user’s phone. The app will copy conversations and messages from their mobile device.
This means that users will require the mobile app to run on their phone and near their desktop computer for it to work. Internet connection is also needed with the sync. These are needed most likely to maintain app security. With all messages being sent to a specific device, it will be easier to determine if there are hacking activities.
How To Download WhatsApp For Desktop
The Verge stated that the new app may be downloaded from the web. Users can go to https://www.whatsapp.com/download via their desktop browser and scan a QR code to log in to the desktop WhatsApp, via the mobile app. All the chats will load afterwards.
To scan the code from the user’s phone, press the menu button in WhatsApp and tap WhatsApp Web. Later, users can also view a list of all web and desktop clients that are logged into the user account from the menu.
The WhatsApp desktop version functions similarly to WhatsApp Web. Users can send messages, record voice messages, forward attachments and photos and manage their message history.
Some of the advantages of using the web app include gaining access to all favorite keyboard shortcuts and getting desktop notifications. The app was fast and responsive.
The availability of the new desktop app provides added convenience to users, allowing them to access and use WhatsApp anytime and anywhere. With over 1 billion users, accessibility has become an essential feature to keep people constantly connected.
