Ted Cruz is being sued for the music he used on one of his presidential campaign ads. His campaign ads caused him to receive a cease and desist order as some of which are still on YouTube.
According to Seattle Times, Ted Cruz is facing charges from one of Seattle's music licencing firm. Ted Cruz used a song from Audiosocket for his TV ads. Upon doing so, Ted Cruz's campaign team was held liable because of the monetary gains from paid advertisements, thus, he was sued for using music in his campaign ads.
Ted Cruz is being sued for two songs, "Lens" and "Fear of Complacency." The lawsuit was already filed in U.S. District Court wherein it claimed that Ted Cruz's campaign made some violations. The lawsuit cited that they violated their contract with Audiosocket as they used songs without a contractual licence. Madison McQueen, Ted Cruz's Hollywood as agency stated that Ted Cruz and his team would not be able to use the songs in any of their advertisement for his campaign. The said contract was reportedly violated by Cruz.
One of the ads that weighted his lawsuit was the one that was aired on Fox Business News. The said campaign ad aired for a total of 86 times. The lawsuit cost Ted Cruz $25,000 for copyright violation which summed up to a total of $2 million. it may seem like a high amount, it is however just an estimate as some ads which appeared on YouTube were not yet quoted.
As of the most recent update, Ted Cruz have not yet pulled out some of his YouTube ads, which could possible increase the lawsuit charge. Fox News added that "Victories" and "Best to Come" gathered countless views, which expanded their audience.
It is still unclear as to Audiosocket will sure Ted Cruz and his team for the increased page view on their ads posted on YouTube. It was mentioned that if ever Audiosocket would decide the politician, he would be left with a huge sum to pay.
