Drama series "Nashville" has been cancelled by ABC after running for four seasons. It is expected to air its final episode by the end of the month.
The Tennessean said the TV series has not been renewed for a fifth season though the production team lobbied to have another season for the show. It was noted that inconsistent ratings greatly hurt the show which is about country and local music scene and even politics.
City Officials Frustrated
Since it has been a big help to the tourism industry promoting local businesses in "Nashville," officials have expressed their frustration on the cancellation of the show. "We are incredibly disappointed to hear the news that ABC has not renewed the show 'Nashville' for another season," Nashville Mayor Megan Barry said.
In a statement, Barry said the show served as a promotional medium for their city which attracted thousands of people from around the globe to visit Nashville. She claimed that the state was even prepared to give whatever support they can provide to the production team for the planned fifth season.
"This is a loss for ABC and for the millions of fans across the world who have grown to love this show," Barry said. We have enjoyed hosting the cast and crew of the show over the last four years and look forward to future opportunities for film and television production here in Nashville."
