Trayvon Martin Killer George Zimmerman Is Auctioning Off His Gun; Says 'I'm A Free American; I Can Do What I Want'

Trayvon Martin’s killer, George Zimmerman auctioned the gun that he used to kill the 17-year-old. Attempts to sell the gun failed and generated negative responses from people.

The acquitted former neighbourhood watchman, who stirred up the nation on Martin’s shooting in 2012, posted an online auction of the murder weapon. He was selling the gun for $5,000.

George Zimmerman’s Sales Pitch

Trayvon Martin’s killer is selling the gun not only for novel reasons but for various causes. First, he said that proceeds would help fight abuse and violence against law enforcers, particularly attacks from Black Lives Matter. He also aims to warrant the demise of the prosecutor’s career, Angela Corey, who put him on trial. Lastly, the former neighbourhood watch aims to counter the anti-fire-arm rhetoric of Hillary Clinton.

Moreover, Trayvon Martin’s killer is saying that the gun is a piece of American history as he posted on his listing for the gun, the New York Times reported.

Zimmerman said that many people expressed their interest in buying the gun. One of which is the Smithsonian Museum. He further pitches that the gun is functional, the CNBC News reported.

Auction Site Rejections for Trayvon Martin’s Killer

The first posting of the gun was seen on the website of gunbroker.com. It was then removed and attempts to search for the product yielded negative results. Zimmerman defends the removal of the posting saying that the website traffic because of the gun’s publicity was excessive for the website to handle.

Another posting by Trayvon Martin’s killer was placed in unitedgungroup.com. The posting was taken down and the website tweeted a post that they have decided to stop the auction. The free website noted that they wanted to distance themselves from the deal.

The attempted sale of the firearm by Trayvon Martin’s killer garnered many negative reactions. Apparently, this is not the first time that Zimmerman attempted to make money out of the Martin incident. During the trial of the case, a fundraiser was put up for Martin, wherein he garnered $200,000 in just less than a month. Zimmerman and his wife spent almost $36,000 in the span of three weeks.

Mr. Crump, who is Martin’s lawyer says that the act of selling the firearm is insulting. Noting that while it may be a gun or an auction item to others, for Martin’s family it is a reminder their lost child.
