There is one more week left before the premiere of "Preacher" on AMC, but fans are already getting excited over the TV series adaptation of Garth Ennis' cult comics. "Preacher" producer Evan Goldberg has even teased that Dominic Cooper's new TV series will be even "more unpredictable" than "Game of Thrones" Season 6!
"More Unpredictable" Than "Game of Thrones"
Evan Goldberg, who developed "Preacher" for AMC with Seth Rogen, recently attended the show's Hollywood premiere in Regal LA. The pilot's co-director tried to explain to The Hollywood Reporter what makes "Preacher" so different from the other shows.
"This goes places metaphysically and intellectually and philosophically and emotionally that I don't think any other show has done or will do," Goldberg said of "Preacher." In an effort to make his explanation easier to understand, Evan Goldberg cited "Game of Thrones" for the show's unpredictability.
"In 'Game of Thrones,' it's all about who's going to usurp who and who's going to cut whose penis off," Goldberg said. "This show is a little more unpredictable - and 'Game of Thrones' is pretty unpredictable!"
That "Game of Thrones" Reference Is Spot On
Evan Goldberg definitely knows what he is talking about. "Game of Thrones" Season 6 follows events that could happen in the sixth novel of George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" book series. Since George R.R. Martin has not yet completed "The Winds of Winter," this is the first time that book readers don't have an advantage on fans who only watch "Game of Thrones."
The Controversial "Preacher" Pilot
The pilot for AMC's "Preacher" has already debuted at the South by Southwest (SXSW) Festival, where it was received with positive reviews. One of the highlights of the episode [SPOILER ALERT] was reported to be the alleged assassination of an A-list actor in front of an audience (via Comic Book Resources).
In preparation for the "Preacher" premiere, AMC has released two videos about the series featuring Dominic Cooper as Jesse Custer, Ruth Negga as Tulip O'Hare and Joe Gilgun as Cassidy (via ComicBook). "Preacher" will premiere on AMC on May 22.
