Many people have been looking forward to the "Independence Day" sequel, which is slated for release later this year. However, the "Independence Day: Resurgence" commercial surprised everyone when it teamed up with the U.S. Army to get more recruits for the Earth Space Defense.
As it turns out, the campaign is not just to promote "Independence Day: Resurgence," but also to seek out "young geeks and gamers" who could be enticed to join the Earth Space Defense. According to iDigitalTimes, Earth Space Defense is "a fictional, one-world, anti-alien military."
Recruitment For Earth Space Defense
Apparently, the United Stated Army decided to partner up with "Independence Day: Resurgence" to create not just a viral video, but a website for Earth Space Defense recruits. Throughout the video, a white text - which says, "Defend Tomorrow. Enlist Today. Join the ESD - is clearly visible at the top. When clicked, the website redirects to GoArmy.com, which also allows users to take a peek into more "Independence Day: Resurgence" content and find more information about career opportunities in the real-life U.S. Army.
Twitter user Jonathan McIntosh pointed out that the "Independence Day: Resurgence" movie website is actually hosted by GoArmy.com. He claims that this is "because it's really a recruiting tool for the US Military."
'Independence Day: Resurgence'
For the "Independence Day: Resurgence" trailer, a stern voiceover, seemingly coming from a politician (via Esquire) evokes a strong urgency for people of Earth to stand together and fight aliens as they attack the beloved planet.
Of course, the "Independence Day: Resurgence" spot gives more information about the Earth Space Defense, which they claim is a real thing. In fact, the trailer was well written, giving viewers a sense of inclusivity, all while promoting the youth to enlist in the U.S. Army.
Roland Emmerich, who was also behind the original 1996 "Independence Day" film, is also the director for "Independence Day: Resurgence." Jeff Goldblum, Liam Hemsworth, Bill Pullman, Jessie Usher and Vivica A. Fox star in the "Independence Day" sequel, which is slated for release on June 24.
