"Castle" aired its final episode Monday, May 16, on ABC and despite earlier buzz that Kate Beckett was going to die and leave Rick Castle broken-hearted, it was a happy ending for the couple. The showrunner also expressed their gratitude to the fans for following the series for eight seasons.
Kate (played by Stana Katic) and Castle (played by Nathan Fillion) finally dealt with LokSat in the "Castle" series finale. Although it was expected to be a dangerous operation, matched by gunfire encounters, they got help from Mason Wood, the head of the Greatest Detective Society, per TV Line. He told them he was sent by Castle's stepmother and they managed to escape the gunfire unscathed.
Realizing that LokSat could be going after their families too, Kate and Castle separated. Castle wanted to ensure that his mom and daughter are safe and Kate returned to the precinct to update her squad. Unfortunately, LokSat's henchmen are everywhere. He's the driver of the cab that Castle got into in the "Castle" series finale.
'Castle' Series Finale: Who Betrayed Rick?
Castle woke up in a lab, where he's attached to a truth serum. A guy named Mr. Flynn was asking him questions since LokSat wanted to know who else knows about his operations. LokSat finally showed up and it turns out—he's Mason Wood! Castle could not believe the betrayal.
With enough information from Castle, LokSat ordered Mr. Flynn to kill him, but the NYPD got there just in time. Unfortunately, Mason diverted Kate and offered to drive her to another location with the intention of killing her. But Kate is a smart girl and realized what's really going on. She took down LokSat/Mason and Castle came to her rescue.
'Castle' Series Finale: Kate And Castle 7 Years Later
But the worst was not yet over! As Kate and Castle rested back home, Caleb Wood appeared and managed to shoot them. CasKett, bleeding and gasping for breath, held hands as they waited for death.
However, they didn't actually die, much to everyone's relief! The "Castle" series finale jumped seven years into the future and Kate and Castle are now parents to three beautiful kids. They live in a traditional New York home, happy and content.
