In the midst of the Indian Ocean, one can find the Sentinelese tribe. They have lived in North Sentinel Island for centuries, and until now, they will shoot any outsider who wishes to intrude into their isolated lives with either a spear or a bow and arrow.
Uncontacted Tribe
The Sentinelese tribe is considered as "uncontacted tribe." While the rest of the world enjoy civilization at its finest, the Sentinelese abhorred "outside contact."
Business Insider said that the tribe has not developed the initial steps towards embracing civilization. They have not resorted to agriculture to sustain their needs, but are still comfortable with gathering and hunting.
Surviving 2004 Tsunami
The Sentinelese have remained almost hidden from the view of mankind. There have been very few photos of these people. One photo was taken during the aftermath of the 2004 tsunami.
Inquiries were made as to how the Sentinelese survived, but the moment that a low-flying helicopter flew over the island, a man instantly rushed out to the beach area. He was aiming his arrow at the chopper. Although there were no words that could be heard, the message of the Sentinelese man was loud and clear.
According to Survival International the gesture clearly stated that the Sentinelese don't want any help from the outside world. They were able to survive the tsunami, hence, they will still survive anything without any intervention from the world that they abhorred.
Failure At Bringing Civilization To Them
Many nationalities have tried to initiate communication with this tribe; however, any attempt had always been met with violent reaction. Some of those who tried to bring out this tribe into the realm of civilization include European explorers and the more recent ones include the Indian coast guard.
Shipwreck survivors have also been met with arrows. Even visitors who simply want to visit the island were met with the same hostility.
Although there are still attempts to draw out the Sentinelese tribe, suffice to say, many have failed. Until now, even after several centuries, they have managed to isolate themselves from the rest of the world.
