Baby yoga has sparked controversy when Lena Fokina's Russian swinging baby yoga video went viral. However, many didn't accept the practice and American YouTube even took it off for violating the company's "shocking and disgusting" content policy.
On the Facebook video published by HuffPost Parents, however, yoga instructor Jenny Holliday showed a much acceptable baby yoga techniques, explaining its benefit to children with tantrums and strong emotions. The video, which was already viewed more than 415,000 times and shared over 4,000 times, showed that baby yoga is not just helping kids with flexibility but also valuable to crying and throwing tantrums children.
In addition, Holliday also stressed that baby yoga allows kids to focus and help them develop their problem resolution skills. It can also be a solution for kids who are struggling with stress and anxiety as well as can improve their behavioral problems. Most importantly, baby yoga is a good bonding activity for a parent and child.
"It gives them body awareness, space awareness, mindfulness and that's something I believe children with some behavioral issues and also developmental issues can benefit from," Holliday said on the video.
Meanwhile, experts also echoed Holliday's statements, saying baby yoga, like any movement, can be beneficial for babies. However, they also warned parents take necessary precautions to do it safely.
