NBA 2K16 To Boast Of A New Spectator Mode, But There’s A Catch

Fans of 2K Sports' widely-popular basketball-simulation game are in for a fresh treat. The California-based developer recently announced that NBA 2K16 will soon have a new spectator mode. The feature will allow players to watch live coverages or replays of their favorite matchups directly from their PS4 or Xbox One consoles.

Road To The Finals

Dubbed as 2K StreamCast, the mode is set to go live on May 21. However, it won't be as serviceable as some might think. Players can only use 2K StreamCast tp spectate games in this weekend's Road to the Finals tournament. They won't be able to use the mode to watch their friend's matches, as per Game Spot.

On the bright side, NBA 2k16's Road to the Finals tournament promises to be a great watch. The competitive event will feature 16 highly-talented teams who will be facing off in a single-elimination tournament format. The top 2 teams will then duke it out in the $250,000 championship in June, when the real-world NBA Finals will also be held.

Each Road to the Finals match can be streamed on-demand even after the game is over. The games can be viewed live on PS4 and Xbox One from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. PST this coming Saturday. Matches will also be broadcasted on the official 2K Sports Twitch channel.

Possible Expansion

Game Informer contacted 2k Sports for comment on whether or not the spectator mode will be expanded upon in the future. A spokesperson for the 2K Games subsidiary said that at this time, the functionality will only support the Road to the Finals tournament.

Looking Ahead To NBA 2K17

Regarding the next installment in the long-running basketball video game series, 2K Sports shared to Twinfinite that NBA 2K17 would be available in two editions: Standard and Legend. The former will have all of the game's base content while the latter will feature bonus Kobe Bryant DLC. The cover star for NBA 2K17 will be unveiled during the Road to the Finals championship match.
