"X-Men: Apocalypse" may be following the old "X-Men" tradition of including a post-credits scene as a teaser of what could happen next in the succeeding films. Bryan Singer's latest movie could be making a reference to "Wolverine 3," as the "X-Men: Apocalypse" post-credits scene teases a new villain and is hinting on X-23's debut in Hugh Jackman's final "X-Men" flick! Needless to say, there are MAJOR SPOILERS here so proceed with caution.
The "X-Men: Apocalypse" Post-Credits Scene
The X-Men have succeeded in defeating Apocalypse (no surprise there), but it looks like a new villain is on the rise in the Weapon X facility (via CinemaBlend). The "X-Men: Apocalypse" post-credits scene follows a man going back into the facility where Wolverine has just annihilated several guards, appearing to be looking for something amidst the mess. The man settles on a vial marked "Weapon X," which contains Wolverine's blood, and stows it away in a briefcase with the name "ESSEX CORP."
Is That Nathaniel Essex?
"X-Men" comic book fans are quick to notice the name and connect it with Nathaniel Essex, the geneticist who eventually becomes Mister Sinister. The "X-Men" villain was transformed into Mister Sinister after his encounter with Apocalypse and his appearance in "X-Men: Apocalypse" could also tease on the live action debut of female Wolverine clone X-23.
Who Is X-23?
Laura Kinney is the female clone of Wolverine that was created by Weapon X using the mutant's DNA. The young clone also has adamantium claws, but only has 2 in each arm and one in each leg. X-23's appearance in future "X-Men" films has already been rumored in April (via SuperHeroHype), and it looks like Nathaniel Essex will be using Wolverine's blood to create X-23 in a future "X-Men" film.
Will Mister Sinister And X-23 Appear In "Wolverine 3?"
Hugh Jackman's last movie as Wolverine has previously confirmed veteran actor Richard E. Grant as a "mad scientist" type character, which would be a fitting description of Mister Sinister. However, none of the details have been confirmed so it is best to take all the information with a grain of salt.
"X-Men: Apocalypse" will hit theaters on May 27. "Wolverine 3" is scheduled for release on March 3, 2017.
